And start again at your beginnings
Sorry for the black out.
The server has crashed and everything it was hosting has disappeared. There was no back up — besides the google caches. We’ll have to start over from scratch. (The new shelton wet/dry now looks more like a sand mandala than a Jeff Koons artwork.)
I’ll keep publishing every friday. Thanks for your continued support and readership.
New URL is newshelton.com/wet/dry/

Sorry for the loss, but glad the site is not dead. I was pretty worried. This is my favourite site.
October 17th, 2009 at 5:33 pm
Here is what you can do sir, there is a backup of most of your material from 2007-2008 on the Internet archive’s wayback machine, I will check for you and see how much has been saved, it seems like all is not lost, don’t be upset. You may be able to piece the site together again. Unfortunately, June 2008- Oct 2009 was not placed in the archive, so all those posts are lost forever, Why didn’t you do a backup over the years? It is impossible to trust the internet.
I’m annoyed at the situation, but so glad you have returned, there is more than one archive on the internet so do some searching and build the site back up, I’m sorry that you have lost most of the information, hopefully you put together a log of the posts you made over the last year.
The most original blog on the internet!, oh and my name is Andrew, nice to meet you :)
October 17th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
Hello again, it’s Andrew, here is an example of a scan from the internet archive wayback machine:
http://web.archive.org/web/20071011105108/pantherhouse.com/newshelton/bert-stern-marilyn-monroe-1962/
The entire post with comments has been saved, and many of your everyday posts and article posts can be found there as well
Now, assuming you did this, there is a program called Msconfig which is a system restore program for Windows OS or if you own a macintosh there is a version for that as well. The program backups everything downloaded on your computer according to month or year, meaning that if you somehow saved the material of this website on a computer or a relative’s computer you could restore the website and reupload everything that was originally here. The calandar allows you to pick a day and time to restore as recently as last week.
Also there is a chat site online called Paltalk my father and I are members, they have a PC Tech room with experts in computer problems and programming from all over the world They may be able to help you restore the website. The address is http://www.paltalk.com/pctech They might know of a way to find someone who could have a backup of your website like the internet archive
Don’t give up, there’s always options.
October 17th, 2009 at 8:17 pm
Thanks Andrew!
October 17th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
Thank god. I was getting anxious. Love this site.
Thank you.
October 17th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
This is one my favorite websites in existence. It’s unfortunate that the site crashed in such a cataclysmic way. I thought the lack of aesthetic was because of my browser but I guess not. Glad to hear the site is back online. Keep it up!
So you don’t think there is any chance of recovery? That’s one helluva crash dude…
October 17th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
You’re welcome, what I’ll miss most is the New Yorker pieces posted here, and all of the articles from NYmag I never got the chance to read the NyMag article about hedge funds for example, Such a shame that all the posts from 2009 are lost, I never got to read most of them, because of working.
Another thing I liked is that you never advirtised on this site, it’s so nice to meet a blogger on the net who isn’t a sellout. Keep up the good work, oh and another article I liked was from the Washington Post concerning illegal immigrants being detained at airports and injected with drugs, flown back to their home country with escorts and nurses, sometimes unfairly. That was one of the best articles I’ve read.
I hope there is a way to transload the content from the archive without stealing, probably not but hey, at least it’s there.
Also I’m a prince fan and thanks to the internet got to hear some bootlegs of his ;) My favorites were All my Dreams, Rebirth of the flesh, and G-spot. Have you heard Lotusflow3R (his new album) yet?
October 18th, 2009 at 1:03 am
Oh no! I mean, very happy to see you back up, but what a bummer about the archives. I hope those much more web savvy than me can help you retrieve them without too much pain.
October 18th, 2009 at 1:45 am
Thank god you’re back! Seeing the site offline ruined my day! It looks as your site is archived up to the beginning of this month, you can probably get someone from the reader base to write a script to retrieve all the stuff and reformat it for your blog system.
Regarding the lack of advertising, it helps the aesthetic of the site, but still, if you needed the money you should do it.
Thanks for an amazing collection :)

i was having a nervous breakdown. i thought the new shelton was gone forever!
October 18th, 2009 at 9:16 am
the new shelton disappeared about the same day my baker decided to close business without notice. Things were falling apart. It’s good to have you back.

Over your summer break I got lonely and went back all the way to the first post. I’ve seen it all, you understand?..
And *still* I feel wounded.
Nothing else like NSW/D on the internets. You make me feel like I’m reading Spy in 1988, only without the gipper in the White House (and without being married to the wrong woman, but with passenger-side airbags).
I’d like to think that you’re going to be Graydon. In fact, you’re BETTER than Graydon: The tragedy of this data loss is that you, like no one else in the popular culture I was tracking through recent years, correctly predicted the magnitude of this market collapse. I poohpoohed and harrumphed and thought you twitchy… “These young Noo Yorkers are clever and pretty, but sometimes a little big for their britches.” And you were right and I was wrong. And now all those warnings are gone. It was a catalog of my arrogance.
But your mentality is where the action is, not in a series of tubey computer files…. By the way, do we know your real identity yet? Do you date famous starlets or young figures from publishing and media? Have you ever had drinks with Elizabeth Spiers at the Algonquin? Nick Denton would love to do lunch with you… Not saying he’d ever want to pay you what you’re worth, just that he’d love to do lunch.
Please take this opportunity to compose a sturdy new media empire and hire me for the L.A. office. —Thx

You’re all so nice. Thank you.
October 18th, 2009 at 12:40 pm
Okay, this is for sv, are you saying it may be possible to retrive all of the archive material of this website? Yesterday, I took the time to visit Pc Tech at Paltalk, they said if the server crashed and not just the website it would be next to impossible to bring back all the material, unless the administrator was willing to pay a lot of money. I didn’t know that all it could take is writing some script code and going to something called a reader base, is the reader base part of Google or something else which I don’t know too much about? I hope a solution can be found we need a miricle worker like Scotty from the Star Trek 1960’s series!
Believe me, the thought of never being able to read over two thirds of the material of this site is quite frankly depressinng me. Wouldn’t you know it, I was going to take my first paid vaccation of this year on the week of Halloween, and was REALLY looking forward to catching up on the archives at New Shelton!
God Damn it! I should’nt have taken this site for granted! I am allowed to cuss here right? Don’t throw me off, please. :)
October 18th, 2009 at 1:29 pm
Let me add to the chorus that I am so relieved you are back! I appreciate the work you put into the New Shelton wet/dry and hope you recover the archive at some point.
October 18th, 2009 at 2:21 pm

October 19th, 2009 at 12:02 pm
Great you guys are back. The site is so good, I never tell anyone about it since I always look so smart when I talk/post about your content. Hope you can glue the archive back together. But most important you are up and running again. Bless.

my memorial to a server Of course I wrote it myself. Perhaps substitute ’server’ for ‘man’ etc. As one sees fit. Urn. I leave it to you, Shelton-ites
Oh man! thou feeble tenant of an hour,
Debased by slavery, or corrupt by power,
Who knows thee well must quit thee with disgust,
Degraded mass of animated dust!
Thy love is lust, thy friendship all a cheat,
Thy smiles hypocrisy, thy words deceit!
By nature vile, ennobled but by name,
Each kindred brute might bid thee blush for shame.
Ye! who perchance behold this simple urn,
Pass on — it honours none you wish to mourn:
To mark a friend’s remains these stones arise;
I never knew but one, — and here he lies.
October 22nd, 2009 at 4:44 am
Good to have you back!
Being one of the more interesting blog/thing on the net, I was worried for a while there.
Also, surely the pantherhouse server has a backup. Somewhere. There has to be a way. :-)
October 22nd, 2009 at 2:49 pm
I look forward to the update every week — grateful for all you do, relieved the site is back.
Thank you.
October 22nd, 2009 at 10:05 pm
